PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

Dear Members,

“How to Prepare a DCAA-Compliant Cost or Price Proposal" was a well attended Government Contractor Breakfast on September 15.  Please consider attending our next breakfast, Tuesday November 10 (see details at our http://www.imanationscapital.org/ web site and calendar).

Our Wednesday September 16 Table Topics on Government Financial Statements focused on the Fairfax County School Board and previewed those of Alexandria Virginia.  With late arrivals we had nearly 12 participants for the presentation by Stephen Wills explaining GASB 74 & 75 and the Effect on State and Local Governments.    Accounting and reporting for pensions and other post-employment benefits (OPEB) will increasingly affect our property rates and income tax liability. The 5 p.m. start and favorable traffic volume plus the 2 CPEs is very well received!

Friday September 25 was our day to cheer on the National’s versus the Philadelphia Phillies with a 7:05 p.m. first pitch!  Your support of chapter activities is much appreciated!

This month’s Strategic Finance topics continue the wide scope and detailed analysis tradition.  Consider http://sfmagazine.com/post-entry/september-2015-robot-analysts-and-robot-reporters/ and how news articles move from data to publications.  Many accounting management practices relate to business processes including

We hope to see more members join us on Wednesday October 21 as we consider Decision Making Models, Budgets, and Biases. Richard “Gus” Gustafson, Professor of Practice, CFO Academy, and National Defense University, will explain how decisions and supporting decision makers is not just “about the numbers”.    Our meeting begins at 5 p.m. with Financial Statement Analysis, 6 p.m. networking, a special Prime Rib Dinner, and the 7 pm presentation! Reserve Now This is our final Fall 2015 Holiday Inn of Rosslyn event.  As of November our locations change.

Please encourage membership in our IMA and promote the CMA certification program, beginning with the CMA exam. With planning and preparation the CMA is very attainable!

Competency Crisis: What Skills Do Accountants Lack?

Are you a "DIY" accountant?  If so, you're "costing your business money and time, " says Dan Gotte, CMA, CPA, CFO and partner at Fuse Financial Partners. According to Dan, management accountants need to develop deep research and investigative skills to fix the mistakes of the past and make processes more efficient.
