CMA PROGRAM - CMA1 Classes Starting March 17

The CMA (Certified Management Accountant) is the leading professional designation in the fields of Management Accounting and Finance. Our mission is to help you become a Certified Management Accountant.

You can take our program live in the convenience of your home or office. We provide you with lots, tons, scads of other learning materials.

All classes Tuesday and Thursday from 7 to 9 PM New York time in the convenience of your home or office.

Financial Planning, Performance, and Control (CMA1) - 16 sessions on management accounting, financial accounting, cost accounting and internal control to make you more effective in your career and to your employer.

Classes start Tuesday, March 17 . You pass in May or June.

CAUTION. Be careful of the "next year" syndrome. We have had long experience with people who are going to take the CMA and/or CPA but they aren't going to take them now but maybe next year and they have been planning to do so for many years. "Next year" doesn't mean next year, it means thirty years from now. If you completed your college program more than five years ago and are not yet certified, we urge you to enroll NOW and we will send you books and materials so you can do some advanced study in preparation for the forthcoming class.

It's easy to enroll over the internet. Just click this link to go to the enrollment form.

    Boardroom Notes

A meeting of the IMA Global Board of Directors was held on February 21 in Dallas, Texas.  IMA President Jeff Thomson reported that the Association is enjoying a restored and enhanced reputation worldwide, and is growing with confidence and integrity.  We expect to reach our goal of 80,000 members early this summer.  The Association is in a very strong financial position, with revenues having doubled between 2008 and 2015.  Overseas growth has been particularly strong, with international members now making up a third of our membership.

IMA is continuing its growth trajectory and adding value for its members by enhancing existing programs as well as pursuing new initiatives.  Recent accomplishments include the following:

    • The new Higher Education Endorsement Program recognizes business curricula that meet the quality educational standards required to enable students to prepare for the CMA designation.  To earn IMA endorsement, higher education programs must (1) cover a substantial portion of the material on the CMA exam; (2) have adequate faculty resources; (3) be accredited by a recognized accreditation organization; and (4) have a faculty member designated as an IMA Campus Advocate.  Eighteen programs are now certified under this program, including one each in Europe and the Middle East.
    • The IMA Accounting Honor Society (IAHS), which will recognize and honor academic achievement in the study of accounting, was officially launched on March 2.  Membership is available to all students who meet the established eligibility criteria.  The first five IAHS members were introduced to the Board and inducted at the Board Meeting in Dallas.
    • A new on-line Assessment Tool is being developed that will enable members to evaluate their competencies, determine their strengths, and identify areas where additional training might be useful.
    • A complete redesign of Strategic Finance magazine was rolled out with the current (March) issue.  It has undergone a total transformation, with a bold new style that modernizes the look and feel of this award-winning publication.  A new website makes the magazine’s content available to everyone—not just IMA members—in a digital format that’s easy to read, share, and print anytime, anywhere, on the digital device of your choice. Check it out at SFmagazine.com.
    • The program for ACE15, IMA’s 96th Annual Conference and Exposition, has been finalized, and registration is underway.  Highlights include keynote addresses by Jerry Greenfield, co-founder of Ben & Jerry’s Homemade, Inc.; Stephen J. Dubner, award-winning author, journalist, radio and TV personality, and co-author of the books Freakonomics and SuperFreakonomics; and Lynn Brewer, most widely-known as one of the Enron whistleblowers.  The Conference will be held June 20-24 at the Westin Bonaventure in Los Angeles; early-bird registration rates are in effect through March 27.

Mr. Thomson discussed the changing landscape for organizations such as IMA, and noted the consolidation that is taking place among accounting associations.  He pointed out that through our partnership with ACCA (the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants), one of the major global players with over 700,000 members, we are well-positioned to meet the challenges of an increasingly competitive environment.
