Competency Crisis: Is the Skills Gap Real?

  • More than 50% of finance executives cannot find qualified staff
  • About 75% of accountants work inside organizations rather than in tax or audit positions
  • To succeed in business, accounting and finance professionals need skills in analytical thought, problem solving, business strategy, leadership and communication

IMA recently posted the first Bad Assets digital debate on its Competency Crisis website.  Ben Mulling, CMA, CPA, CITP, IMA Chair-Elect, served as host—with debaters David DeLong, president of Smart Workforce Strategies, and Lorraine Moore, president of Accelerate Success. DeLong referenced and linked the Competency Crisis in a recent Harvard Business Review article, “When Learning at Work Becomes Overwhelming.”

Find out about this crisis, the debate, and what you can do to solve the problem for yourself and the profession!
